Aldehyde and ketones show the following types of isomerism:

→ Chain or Nuclear IsomerIsm : Two or more than two organic compounds whose molecular formula are same but structural formula are different due to different arrangement of alkyl parent chain, are known as chain isomers and this phenomenon is called chain isomerism.

→ Position IsomerIsm : Two or more than two organic compounds which have same molecular formula but different structural formula due to different position of alkyl group or substituted group, unsaturation (double or triple bond) or functional group in carbon chain are called position isomers and this phenomenon is called position isomerism. Examples : position isomers

→ Functional Isomerism : Two or more than two organic compounds which have same molecular formula but different structural formula due to different functional group are called functional isomers and this phenomenon is called functional isomerism.

→ Metam.rism : Two or more than two organic compounds which have same molecular formula but different structural formula due to different nature of alkyl groups attach to polyvalent functional group are called metamers and this phenomenon is called metamerism.
