Ammonia (NH3) Chemistry Notes

Ammonia (NH3) :

Introduction :

Ammonia is very important compound of nitrogen. Ammonia is present only in traces in atmosphere. It is first isolated by Priestly in 1774 by the action of ammonium chloride and lime. Berthelot in 1788 named it alkaline air while in 1800 Davy gave its formula NH3

Ammonia can be formed by the bacterial decomposition of nitrogenous matter of plants and animals. On some planets i.e., Jupiter and Saturun, it is found in abundance. The typical smell of ammonia be felt near public urinals and cattle sheds.
